Griffiths, the trading name of Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd, is a civil engineering contractor established in 1968 by Alun Griffiths in Abergavenny, South Wales. It operates throughout Wales, the Midlands and South West England from its base at Waterways House in Llanfoist, Abergavenny, and says it directly employs more than 1,000 people. The company became part of Tarmac, a CRH subsidiary, in 2018.
Its work is organised into three sectors. Infrastructure covers highways maintenance, highways and bridges, active travel, urban regeneration, utilities and coastal, river and canal works. A rail department, formed in 2013, delivers lineside civils, depots, station accessibility schemes, new stations and improvements, bridges, viaducts and tunnels, and emergency response. A geotechnical department, formed in 2018, carries out slope stabilisation, rock bolting and rockfall protection, soil nailing, piling and anchoring, vegetation management and rope access work.
Highways and clients
Griffiths states that it is on the relevant infrastructure frameworks in its operating area and has worked on the M4, M5, A465 Heads of the Valleys, A470 and A55. Public sector clients include the Welsh Government and local authorities across Wales and the West of England, and the site shows National Highways, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water and the Welsh trunk road agents among its clients.
