About Bsi Group
BSI is the UK's National Standards Body, incorporated by Royal Charter, and provides standards development, assessment and certification, product testing, training, consulting and software services to organisations worldwide. Work on its first standard began in 1901, the Royal Charter was first granted in 1929, and the Kitemark quality mark was registered two years later. BSI supports a global community of around 13,000 experts who help develop standards.
As an accredited certification body, BSI Assurance assesses and certifies management systems, people, products and processes. The Kitemark is presented as a mark of quality, safety and trust that helps organisations access global markets. BSI states that it does not certify a client's management system where it has also provided consultancy on that same system, and its national standards body role is kept separate from its certification, testing and training business.
Built environment
For construction and infrastructure, BSI offers system certification, product testing and certification, and training. Standards it highlights for the sector include BS 99001, a quality management standard for the built environment, and ISO 19650 for managing information through building information modelling across the life of an asset, supported by online ISO 19650 training courses. It also runs a Built Environment Competence Programme and services covering quality in construction product manufacture and the construction process, sustainable infrastructure and digital trust.
