Overview
About Citb-construction Skills
CITB, the Construction Industry Training Board, is the employer-led and funded skills and standards body for the construction industry in Great Britain. It is a registered charity in England and Wales and in Scotland, and its role is to help the industry attract, develop and retain a skilled and inclusive workforce. Its registered address is at Cygnet Park in Hampton, Peterborough.
CITB collects the construction industry levy from registered employers and provides guidance on who should register, what employers pay and how to complete a levy return. The levy funds grants, funding schemes and business support for employers, including a New Entrant Support Team that helps firms take on new recruits, and local advisers across the country.
Training and tests
CITB runs the Health, Safety and Environment test taken by site workers, Site Safety Plus courses for supervisors and managers, and a range of eCourses. It also provides card and training record services, including a facility to check a card. The National Construction College delivers training and apprenticeship courses, and CITB helps people find apprenticeships and helps employers hire apprentices.
For the wider training sector, CITB oversees internet test centres, a Training Provider Network, Recognised Organisations and National Specialist Accredited Centres, and acts as the Standards Setting Body for construction occupational standards. It also publishes its plans and performance.
