Overview
About Nynas Uk
Nynas is a Swedish producer of bitumen and naphthenic specialty products, founded in 1928 as a traditional oil company. In the 1980s it sold its petrol stations and fuels business to concentrate on specialty products, and it now describes itself as a European specialty chemicals company and bitumen producer. Its five business segments are bitumen, base oils, process oils, transformer oils and tyre and rubber oils.
Nynas bitumen is used as a binder for roads, bridges, runways and roofs. The road range is grouped into Regular grades that meet current performance specifications; Extra products for needs such as resistance to deformation, fatigue resistance, structural contribution, lower working temperatures and better workability; and Premium products for heavily loaded, high traffic roads and projects that need long service life with minimal disruption. The company can select or develop a binder for a particular requirement. Its Nypol RE polymer modified binder includes a biogenic component and was used by Skanska at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, a project shortlisted for the World Sustainability Awards 2026.
Nynas supplies bitumen through a network in the Nordic countries and the UK, backed by sales and technical staff who provide technical support and work with customers on product development. It has a UK managing director and named sales contacts covering England, Wales and exports, and Scotland. The company aims to become climate neutral by 2050.
