Jet Plant Hire is a road planing contractor working nationally, with its strongest presence in the South of England, the Midlands and Yorkshire. The business started in 1989 with a single 1m planer on the Isle of Wight, run from the family home, and bought its first yard on Badsey Road in 1994. In 2004 it acquired Tetlaw from National Road Planing, which took it into markets needing larger machines and led to the purchase of its own 2m planers. Purpose built offices and workshops at Vale Park followed in 2009.
The company describes itself as one of the largest road planing companies in the UK and runs a fleet of 31 Wirtgen planers, all operating on HVO fuel. Machines range from 350mm and 500mm planers for small repairs to 1m, 2m and 2.2m tracked planers for larger schemes, supported by a network of depots.
Sectors
Work covers motorways and highways, car parks, footpaths and pavements, bridge expansion joints, airports and local authority contracts, from general hire on smaller projects to large contracts and public sector work. The company also offers project planning and programme management, sells road planings, and trains its own people through Jet School, with operators expected to hold CSCS cards and MPQC or NVQ Level 2 qualifications.
Jet Plant holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification and displays CHAS and FORS Silver. It has received RoSPA Gold awards for health and safety performance and for fleet safety, and runs an environmental and waste management programme that includes the disposal of road planings.
